About

Description

Visioning is used to create a set of common aims and objectives for a project and describe what the future will be like if they are delivered. Visioning differs from scenario building in that it tries to construct a single, preferred future that can provide a shared aspirational goal for participants.

‘If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.’
Lewis Carroll

The technique works well for short workshop-based activities and can also be scaled up to engage a wide number of stakeholders over time.

Some memorable and inspirational visions include:

‘Put a man on the moon and bring him back safely, by the end of the decade (1960’s).’
NASA Apollo programme
‘Think of it as Apollo on steroids.’
NASA’s return to an assertive space programme (2005)
‘The future’s bright, the future’s Orange’
An enduring brand slogan (1994)
‘Encircle caterpillar’
Komatsu vision (2005).
